Engineers at Fine Organics here say they're pleased with the recent installation of an automated control system that "puts batch processing back in the hands of process technologists." Using Direktor batch management system from Moore Process Automation Solutions (formerly Moore Products), Fine Organics engineers can separate recipe functions from the underlying process control strategy—so control system experts don't have to create recipes and process technologists don't have to be control system designers. A primary advantage of the two-screen system is that operators are obliged to enter a message to confirm when each manual operation is complete. "Secure operator log on and embedding of manual operations in the recipes is a significant benefit in traceability for both safety considerations and product traceability and validation criteria," says Mike Eyre of Moore Process Automation Solutions.
