Temperature sensors: Make the right choice, RTD vs. TC

When you need a temperature measurement, one of the most basic decisions is choosing which kind of sensor to deploy. The application should guide your decision.

Taking the mystery out of thermowell selection

It stands between your process and the sensor element, so understanding thermowell characteristics is key to reliable measurements. Once you understand the selection criteria, the mystery can be solved, resulting in the best performance of your temperature measurement system.

The long and short of connecting sensors to control rooms

Temperature sensors, more than most other types of instrumentation, can require specialized cabling and treatment to provide accurate data. The design engineer must consider a number of technology, performance, and cost of ownership issues to make a proper decision.

Keys to achieving high accuracy and reliability in temperature measurement

The final result of your temperature measurement will depend on the interaction of all the devices and connections between the sensor and control system.

Temperature diagnostics help prevent unplanned shutdowns

Your instrumentation may be trying to warn you of a developing problem. Usually this warning will give you time to prevent a production interruption, if you're paying attention. Many modern process plants have turned to diagnostics as a way to identify issues before they become problems.

Overcome temperature measurement installation challenges with best practices

You have designed and purchased the optimal temperature measurement system to meet the performance requirements of your process. Your job is done, right? Wrong, because if it is not installed properly, the actual measurement results can fall far short of expectations.

Question: How is correct to make calibration:
(1)in situ by using the overall instrumentation used in operating conditions; or (2)taking out the T-sensor and placing it into a special device, but using the all instrumentation as in operating conditions; or
(3) as in (2) using a standard instrumentation.
