Temperature sensor: Accurate, low-cost, general-purpose unit

When a situation calls for a large number of temperature sensors for a simple, moderate-duty application, a low-cost but reliable technology can fill the bill on a budget.

Spectrum Sensors and Controls has introduced a general-purpose temperature sensor covering a range from 0 °C to 70 °C, that reportedly combines excellent thermal response, high accuracy, and rugged construction in a low cost package. This sensor assembly is easy to use to monitor air temperatures or it can be installed in a thermowell for liquid sensing, making it ideal for standard controllers or data loggers.

This new sensor features sturdy construction with a fully potted metal housing. It encloses a fast response thermistor element and a plastic molded shell that thermally isolates the assembly from the environment and also adds a degree of strain relief. This sensor is available in a variety of RvT curves and thermistor resistance values ranging from 2.2 k? to 10 k?, providing accuracy of
