New line of XB IEC terminal blocks from Eaton Corp. includes screw type, spring cage, and insulation displacement connection (IDC) technologies. All have a dual bridge shaft with the same shape and common accessories to reduce inventory and simplify installation. Accompanying Echart software for DIN-rail assemblies facilitates customized design.

Screw-type connection features a nickel-plated copper alloy that offers low contact resistance. It is suited for harsh and corrosive environments common to material handling and process industries such as petrochemical, water and wastewater, and pulp and paper. Other features include multi-conductor connection maintenance-free design that prevents screw back-out when properly torqued.

Spring-cage technology is intended for high-vibration environments. Space-saving style is available for rated conductor cross sections from 1.5-35 sq mm. It offers a fast-wiring operation for solid and stranded conductors, with or without the use of ferrules.

IDC technology is for high-volume applications where termination speed is critical. Conductor can be connected without having to strip it. Insulation displacement contact ensures a reliable electrical connection with a simple, audible click. IDC style is also available in a hybrid version, with IDC or spring-cage connection on one side for factory wiring, and screw connection on the other for field wiring.

Terminal blocks are tested and approved for a wide range of certifications—including EN and IEC standards, UL, cUL, and CE—to offer a globally rated connection and terminal system. They are tested in accordance with railway standard EN 50 155, making them suitable for safety-relevant applications where vibration stressing occurs. They also meet the ATEX-100a guideline for potentially explosive areas. Durable insulation housing material is non-flammable and fulfills requirements of classification V0 is accordance with UL94. www.EatonElectrical.com Eaton Corp.
