Eight-bit microcontroller with integrated IEEE 802.3-compliant Ethernet communications peripheral from Microchip Technology Inc. is optimized for embedded monitoring and control applications. PIC18F97J60 is thought to be the smallest single-chip Ethernet family or 8-bit microcontrollers available in North America. Features include an on-chip medium access controller (MAC) and physical layer device (PHY). With a 10Base-T Ethernet controller integrated onto a 10 MIPS PIC18 microcontroller with up to 128 Kbytes of Flash program memory, embedded systems designers have a single-chip remote-communication product for a wide range of applications. Product gives designers network connectivity in 64- to 100-pin packages said to be cost effective and easy to use. Free TCP/IP software stack can reduce development time.
