  1. 2014 Maintenance Study: Planned maintenance leads to uptime, safety, productivity
    The merits of a planned maintenance program are clear to the plant manager who must find it and keep it on task, according to Plant Engineering’s 2014 Maintenance Study. More than 60% of survey respondents said a planned maintenance program can decrease downtime, improve safety, and reduce the probability of production failure.
  2. The fight against Legionella
    The first major outbreak of Legionnaires’ Disease occurred in July of 1976 at an American Legion convention in Philadelphia at the Bellevue-Stratford Hotel. The source of the outbreak was cooling tower water infected with high concentrations of Legionella that became airborne on wind currents. The airborne bacteria were inhaled by a number of convention participants. In the end, 130 convention attendees were hospitalized with pneumonia-like symptoms, resulting in 25 fatalities.
  3. Schneider Electric completes acquisition of Invensys
    Schneider Electric announced today that it completed its acquisition of Invensys PLC, a global automation player with a large installed base and a strong software presence. The deal previously was reported to be a $5 billion transaction.
  4. AT&T Mobility and GE: Industrial Internet
    Meredith Powers, M2M, manufacturing and healthcare, advanced mobility solutions marketing; and Mike Waitley, M2M Center of Excellence, explained how AT&T and GE are working together to advance the Industrial Internet.
  5. 2014 ARC Industry Forum: Executive panel on millennials in the workforce
    Industry-leading executives from Siemens, BASF, Emerson, Dow Chemical, and Comau Body Welding tackled an industry-wide challenge: attracting future engineers.
