Pepperl+Fuchs’ UOS-100 ultrasonic positioning system—including ultrasonic emitters, receivers, and control interface—is said to enhance error proofing in demanding industrial assembly operations.

Twinsburg, OHPepperl+Fuchs ’ UOS-100 ultrasonic positioning system, consisting of ultrasonic emitters, receivers, and a control interface, is designed to enhance error proofing in demanding industrial assembly applications. It is especially suited for applications requiring assembly process assurance such as automotive assembly where screws need to be processed in a particular order, and also for the allocation of objects in assembly line production and other quality assurance systems.

Ultrasonic positioning is said to eliminate the tool motion restriction of footprinting, achieving higher productivity without the loss of process control and precisely determining the position of a tool or object in three-dimensional space without complex mechanical systems, such as articulating arms.

Complete system performs propagation time measurement and output of the calculated x, y, and z coordinates of the object to be positioned. Coordinates can be used by a higher-level control system; communication takes place over Ethernet for individual workstation control. One UOS-100 control interface monitors and controls up to four workstations simultaneously. Systems can be cascaded to allow networking and management of up to 124 workstations.
