brand, are advanced double-conversion, on-line systems offering optimum power quality and availability for protecting the most sophisticated industrial, network, telephony, and medical applications.

The UPS family is said to meet higher power requirements of today's high-density servers with precise power conversion and compatibility with next-generation power factor correction (PFC) power supplies. Pulsar UPS systems deliver pure power and integrated networks and software, providing a comprehensive, easy-to-integrate solution for power protection, Eaton says.

Herve Tardy, vice president and general manager, Distributed Power Quality Division of Eaton, says, the high-efficiency double-conversion on-line design offers a “high output factor and level of available wattage, eliminating the need to over size the UPS and resulting in significant cost savings.”

Pulsar 700, 1,000, and 1,500 VA units feature multiple-form factors. Tower and rack options are available in various sizes to accommodate a variety of networking and telecommunication enclosures. All Pulsar models accommodate a multi-position power distribution unit (FlexPDU) that saves space by adding receptacles to the back, side or top of the UPS– freeing up space in dense rack environments. In addition, a universal HotSwap Maintenance By-Pass module is designed to assure power continuity by allowing the UPS to be replaced without interrupting the power supply.

During a power outage, Pulsar can protect connected equipment for up to five hours with optional external battery modules. For increased continuity, Pulsar's internal battery can be hot-swapped from the front panel while the UPS remains in the rack. In addition, it features a wide input voltage tolerance that allows the UPS to accept wide voltage fluctuations. This feature minimizes the frequent transfer to batteries, saving battery life. To maximize backup time for critical devices connected to the UPS, Powershare technology enables users to remotely reboot systems and gracefully turn off less critical equipment.

All Pulsar models include USB and serial ports for remote communications and power management. Network integration is handled with an optional network management card. The UPS comes with a free version of Enterprise Power Manager to manage up to five UPSs or other power devices, regardless of brand.
