National Instruments offers virtualization technology that enables engineers to run multiple operating systems side-by-side on the same computer. This is useful for automation, control, and many other high-performance applications, as virtualization can combine real-time process and a user interface on one computer.

Software from National Instruments, called NI Real-Time Hypervisor, takes advantage of the capabilities of multicore processors by running deterministic NI LabVIEW Real-Time applications while running Microsoft Windows or Red Hat Enterprise Linux, for instance, bringing higher reliability to mission-critical applications.
