Linux operating system (OS) has been making big waves lately in office and business software arenas. How Linux will play out on the factory floor is still being determined.

My May 2004 article, ”Pros and Cons of Linux on the Shop Floor,” will look at developments in Linux OS for the demanding industrial environment. Focus will be strictly on factory-floor, manufacturing, and control applications. Input on your experience as users of Linux OS is needed for this article. Please send me brief results about one of your applications—including your views and opinions on this topic. Results will be shared in the article and online.
