Field-oriented (flux vector) control is a must to obtain high performance from ac induction motors. Some digital servo drives now also use this control method to optimize the control of brushless servo motors.

My February 2004 article ”Vector Control for Servos” will explore the topic to define trends, applicability, and extent of field-oriented control for servo motors. Your input as users or manufacturers of servo drives is solicited for this article. Please send me your views and opinions on this topic. Results will be shared in the article.
