Wide-band high current monitor measures narrow current pulse

An IPC current monitor from Ion Physics Corporation senses the magnetic field surrounding a primary current carrying cable or charged particle stream without physical contact with the conductor.

Ion Physics CorporationIon Physics Corporation introduced a current monitor capable of measuring narrow current pulse of several hundred kA and ac currents up to 2,000 ARMS with a 3 dB bandwidth of 0.1 Hz to 100 kHz.

This IPC current monitor is a transformer with a one turn primary, internally terminated in a low inductance impedance network to convert the current signal to a voltage signal. This model has the designation CM-01-CS11 and has a sensitivity of 1 mV/A. It senses the magnetic field surrounding the primary current carrying cable or charged particle stream, requiring no physical contact with the primary conductor, eliminating ground loops and interference noise.

This current monitor’s high saturation limit is 250 As, the 3dB bandwidth ranges from 0.1 Hz to 100 kHz, and its usable rise time is 4 microseconds and the droop 0.1%/ms. It’s also electrostatically shielded and has an O.D. of 30 cm and an I.D. of 15 cm.
