Wireless: New controller meets universal restrictions

Otek Corp. offers a

Tucson, AZ—The Otek Corp . model MBWC (Multi-Band 2-Way Wireless Controller) features four universally acceptable radio frequency (RF) bands (315, 433, 868, and 915) without changing hardware (HW) or firmware (FW). The units are factory configured for specific band and output power to match specific country’s requirements, which allows equipment exports without making HW or FW changes, saving time and resources.

Savings is significant. At more than $100 per foot wiring cost in hazardous locations, the MBWC will pay for itself within 5 ft. MBWC uses Otek’s FCC approved ( U.S. Federal Communications Commission , for certain bands and power) MBTR radio modem inside the case where signal conditioners for most sensors or transducers, relays, serial I/O and power supply options are populated. Otek can customize the order.

To keep the cost down, the MBWC is available as a transmitter, receiver, transceiver (two way control) and repeater (extends range). All functions are offered in NEMA 4X, sanitary (250 oF steam) and explosion proof versions. The Key-FOB is available only as a transmitter (ideal for guards). Signals accepted include mV, mA (ac and dc), thermocouple (TC), resistance temperature device (RTD), S-G, pH, %RH, Hz, serial, and custom. The receiver outputs serial, OCT, relays (four), analog (two) including 4-20 mA. Transceivers can be configured as a transmitter or receiver (TX or RX) allowing for 2-way control (RX commands the TX to control the on-site process). Two-way control eliminates duplicate TX and RX.

Applications would include two-way control of silos, cranes, furnaces, reservoirs, any process, stand alone controller, or as part of distributed control system (DCS) or supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system, with shipping containers, for security or other uses.
