WirelessHART compliance verification receiver available

In a move advance development and compliance testing of WirelessHART devices, the HART Communication Foundation released the Wi-Analys Compliance Verification Receiver.

Austin, TX – In a move critical to the development and compliance testing of WirelessHART devices, the HART Communication Foundation , released the Wi-Analys Compliance Verification Receiver. The unit allows companies designing new wirelessly enabled HART devices to test and analyze their radio transmissions.
“The HART Wi-Analys compliance verification receiver is designed to capture all 802.15.4 transmissions operating in the 2.4 GHz frequency range, but focuses on those from WirelessHART devices,” says Ed Ladd, HCF director of technology programs. “The receiver has the capability of capturing data at up to 1,000 messages per second.”
Wally Pratt, chief engineer in the organization’s test laboratory, demonstrated the prototype receiver for Control Engineering. Significantly, the unit captures all transmissions on all 16 IEEE 802.11.4 channels from the unit under test (UUT), along with a time stamp precise to 1μs. Test analyst software then compares those messages with what the standard says should have been sent based on the test stimuli. It then logs the results into a searchable database. Engineers can then mine that data to help the UUT vendor find and fix problems before the UUT becomes a product inthe field.
“We’re really on the vendor’s side,” Pratt points out. “We help them make sure their products will be robust in the field.”
The test specification (test plan) for a Wireless HART device may include as many as 2,000,000 messages, and take several weeks to complete. Among that large number of messages, no more than 20 misses are allowed. “We may repeat messages hundreds of times to make sure the UUT gets it right every time,” Pratt continues.
The prototype receiver has been undergoing final development tests in the organization’s Austin, TX test laboratory, and has already proven invaluable in validating compliance of initial prototype devices sent to the Foundation for device registration. The Wi-Analys receiver has passed all required FCC and CE tests and is now available to verify HART compliance.
