To verify on/off settings and other conditions remotely, users of measurement and control products implement wireless instrumentation by using Accutech ’s new multi-input field unit. This instrument can read both analog (mA, mV, V) and discrete values (on/off, continuity, contact closure) from remote locations, and reliably transmit the data with no external power or signal wiring. Output options include analog (4-20 mA), digital (Modbus) and discrete (on/off) for integration with existing plant systems. Total installed cost is typically a few hundred dollars per point.
Accutech’s self-contained, wireless instrumentation, multi-input field units enable users to add more capabilities to control operations. These field units are ideal for enhancing availability of data from existing instruments, and enabling confirmation of related equipment status. Besides transmitting data from sensors, such as flowmeters, pH meters or any instrument with voltage or current outputs, these units can also send discrete data to verify valve position, compressor, or pump status.
The multi-input field unit includes a transceiver that provides two-way communications in the 900 MHz, ISM license-free band, and has a battery life of up to five years. Reliable, secure frequency hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) technology, as well as a robust error checking and correction scheme, validates that accurate data are received. With a transmission range of up to 3,000 feet and installation, using non-invasive bolt-on brackets, these wireless monitors are easily installed, even in FM approved, Class I, Division 1 hazardous areas.
