Shrinking product design cycles remains a chief goal for nearly all manufacturers. And few products have attacked that issue better than Solid Edge with Synchronous Technology from Siemens PLM Software.

Using this solution, Razor, a maker of toy scooters, took model editing time from three hours in a traditional 3D CAD system to about five seconds using the tool. Brückner, a manufacturer of industrial equipment, was able to edit supplier data using Solid Edge with Synchronous Technology, which helped the company avoid paying change fees.

Siemens PLM Software unveiled the concept of synchronous technology in 2008 with plans to apply it to both its NX and Solid Edge solutions. Solid Edge with Synchronous Technology first shipped in August 2008. In May, 2009, Solid Edge with Synchronous Technology 2 was announced.

The package uses a synchronous solver that updates only the affected geometry providing nearly instant edits. The tool’s direct interaction paradigm lets users develop models with less pre-planning, while its modeling and edit tools work equally well on imported geometry, thus promoting design reuse.

In a nutshell, Solid Edge with Synchronous Technology impresses for its speed, power, and flexibility. That explains why the solution earned second place in the category Most Innovative Product by a Vendor in MBT’s 2009 Innovation Insight Awards competition.
