As the Global Facilities leader for Burns & McDonnell in the Southeast, Alex has significantly advanced the company’s presence within the manufacturing industry, particularly in the food and beverage markets. Since joining in 2019, he has demonstrated exceptional leadership in managing engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) projects and fostering strong client relationships. Alex led a groundbreaking “factory of the future” project for frozen food, integrating advanced technology and automation to create the largest facility of its kind in the world. With more than 14 years of experience, Alex’s blend of technical knowledge and emotional intelligence has made him a pivotal leader, driving both client success and community impact.

Achievements, Advancements & Career-related Industry Contributions

In 2020, Alex became the Engineering Project Manager for a major expansion of a food processing facility, increasing its size by over 400,000 sq ft. This project incorporated energy-efficient processes and sustainable practices, such as wastewater reduction and renewable energy integration. Through Alex’s focus on project delivery excellence, Burns & McDonnell solidified its reputation as a trusted advisor, elevating the account to Enterprise status and positioning Alex as the go-to leader. This success led to his promotion to Account Manager, where he redefined best practices in account management and maximized cross-selling opportunities.

In 2022, Alex achieved certification as an EPC Project Manager, a two-year program covering 12 functional areas, including safety, quality, risk, and engineering. His certification endorsed his capability to oversee complex projects. By 2024, Alex was promoted to lead Global Facilities in the Southeast at Burns & McDonnell, growing his team from one to 30 people. He was also named Principal, a professional achievement reserved for those who lead by example and demonstrate strategic insight, technical excellence, and an unwavering commitment to the firm.

Non-work-related Activities & Hobbies

In 2022, Alex discovered a passion for golf, finding it a special way to connect with his father-in-law. He plays two to three times each month, sharing stories and creating memories. This experience has been a blessing for Alex, providing invaluable family time and a peaceful escape from his daily responsibilities.

Interesting Details

Alex recently chaired the firm’s annual United Way (UW) fundraising campaign, raising over $370,000 in five years. He also served on the Board of Directors for the UW of Greater Atlanta’s Young Professional Leadership Group. Additionally, Alex is an active member of the Innovation Committee of Second Helpings Atlanta, a nonprofit dedicated to reducing hunger and food waste. The organization rescues healthy surplus food and distributes it to those in need. Alex is being considered for a position on their Board of Directors this year. Alex married his wife Leiah in 2021, and they are proud parents of three dogs.

Why Alex Chose This Career

Engineering runs in Alex’s family, with both his father and brother being engineers. Growing up, Alex’s father held leadership positions in the pulp and paper manufacturing industry, giving Alex the opportunity to tour manufacturing plants from a young age. This early exposure strongly influenced Alex’s decision to pursue a career in engineering, allowing him to follow in his family’s footsteps. Alex feels incredibly fortunate to have had the opportunity to continue this legacy.
