ABB releases new process sensors, flowmeters

Orlando, FL – During its first-ever combined Automation & Power World event (March 24-26, 2009) ABB debuted three new products targeted at the process industries:

Endura AZ20 is the company’s next generation of combustion gas analyzers for industrial and utility boiler applications. The analyzer features a revised sensor design and a choice

of probe lengths up to 13.12 ft (4 meters). It can be used in high-temperature applications up to 800 °C. Manufactured using a new ceramic-tosteel bonding process, the AZ20 is said to offer improved resistance to thermal stresses and shocks compared to a conventional brazed design. This enables the sensor to be used in a wider range of applications subject to sudden variations in process temperature, as well as offering a gas tight bond throughout its operating temperature range. Suitable applications include sulphurous and reducing atmospheres, such as sulphur recovery processes, crematoria, and industrial and clinical waste incineration.

Endura TBX587 Retractable pH sensor targets smaller 1-inch NPT process connections found in sample lines in refineries, chemical plants, and other industrial applications. ABB notes that its move of the sensor’s temperature compensation element to the tip of the sensor provides response times up to 6x faster then conventional gel-filled pH sensors. An optional IP68 Vario Pin style cable connector enables sensor replacement without the need for wiring or terminal strips. In addition, the mechanical design of the Endura TBX587 includes a large “T” style handle to aid in insertion and retraction into pressurized process pipelines.

beverage, power & utilities, pharmaceutical & biotech, oil & gas, metals & mining, and pulp & paper. The flowmeters feature the ABB Universal HMI– the standard for all new ABB Instrumentation products – which is said to simplify operation, maintenance, and training; thereby reducing cost of ownership.
