Recently announced by Acrosser U.S.A. Inc. —an ISO-9001 certified embedded platform service provider for OEMs—is the bundling of Microsoft Windows CE .net image with the company’s AR-B1551 embedded PC-104 single-board computer (SBC). The 3.5-in. EBX CPU board includes a low-power, fanless NS Geode 300-MHz processor. It can function as a compact, embedded computer control system for applications ranging from industrial automation, medical equipment, and test analyzers to Internet security and data/fax-server duty. Also announced is that Windows Embedded OS support will be available for all Acrosser embedded SBCs. This package is intended to shorten application development time, increase efficiency, and lower costs for engineers and system integrators.

Windows CE .net toolset includes a single integrated development environment for building, debugging, and deploying an operating system image. “By using Visual Studio .net or Visual C++ .net, developers can easily transfer and implement their existing knowledge of desktop application development straight to embedded devices,” says Acrosser U.S.A. Windows Embedded OS is a fully functional, compact operating system suited for developers focusing on low-cost, small-footprint products.

Acrosser AR-B1551 is fully compatible with WinCE .net. A funtional WinCE .net image has been created, which contains device drivers and customer-defined logo. Also available are a custom image for an existing board and a plug-and-play compact flash-based CE version with specific drivers and applications defined by the customer.

Various data transfer options come with AR-B1551: built-in 10/100Base-Tx fast Ethernet port, plus 2 COM, 2 USB, 1 parallel, and 1IrDA ports. A stackable PC-104 expansion slot provides for extra peripherals or analog and/or digital I/O devices. A mini enclosure enhances product reliability and usefulness.

Pricing for AR-B1551 board is $280; WinCE .net image is free.
