Adaptive robot for manufacturing

Baxter by Rethink Robotics is a robot that can perform repetitive production tasks on the work floor and can adapt to its situation by sensing the environment around it.

Baxter is a robot able to perform a variety of simple, yet critical production tasks while safely and intelligently working next to people in manufacturing environments. Baxter can sense and adapt to its task and its environment through vision-guided detection and object detection. This gives Baxter an added awareness of its surroundings and the ability to adjust accordingly. Watch a Control Engineering video about Baxter.

Baxter can handle many repetitive production tasks that are typically difficult or expensive to automate, freeing human operators to focus on more value-added jobs. Baxter’s initial release software includes functionality for basic discrete part handling, simple line loading/unloading, and basic packing and unpacking tasks, with more complex features and enhanced performance to follow.
