TA Engineering Co. announced Jan. 18 that Barrington Systems Inc. (San Carlos, Calif.) has agreed to integrate and resell TA’s Aimax software as part of Barrington’s Starview and GalXC systems. To help form a total management and control solution for building automation, energy management, facility maintenance, and similar applications, Aimax will act as the central command station and graphical user interface for Barrington’s LanStarr- and MicroStarr-based Distributed DDC (direct digital control) Network Systems. Barrington has provided DDC systems to firms, such as Intel, Lockheed, Sandia Labs, Perkin Elmer, and the University of California.

Twenty-eight Aimax projects were completed in the first 60 days that Barrington offered Aimax, and another 20 were ordered. Most of these organizations are upgrading to TA Engineering’s Aimax for Windows and Aimax for Enterprise software, replacing Barrington’s older DOS-based StarView/4000 product. Upgrading to Aimax allows facility managers to use information unavailable in StarView, including real-time performance data, active trending, and cost/performance optimization algorithms customized by Barrington. Large campus sites are also using Aimax for Enterprise’s remote-control and remote-management capabilities.

TA’s centralized database server in AIMAX for Enterprise is being used as the nucleus of Barrington’ GalXC resource management solution. This is a synergy of traditional building automation functions, work and document management, efficiency analysis, and data visualization applications. Aimax for Enterprise’s remote management and control capabilities reduce system implementation and software maintenance costs. In Barrington’s larger systems, using more than 20,000 I/O point tags, Aimax for Enterprise enables software updates and graphic screen integration to be conducted from one desktop and then propagated to other PCs using a form of push technology.
