Historically a manufacturer of cable and connectors for health care and medical applications, Alden is seeking to enable the industrial automation market to hasten adoption of Ethernet-based solutions by eliminating interconnection issues. Alden reports that its experience makes it easy for the firm’s connectors to achieve IP67 performance because of its core competency in IP67, IP68 and autoclavable packaging.

In fact, the exterior of Alden’s connectors can also be used to accommodate fiber-optic, coaxial, pin-and-socket, as well as RJ-45 methodologies. Also, Alden manufactures a one-piece M12 adapter that allows users to convert a screw-in M12 connection to a pin-and-socket M12 with Pulse-Lok.

Furthermore, the receptacle or back-end of Pulse-Lok connectors includes a keystone module that can be easily replaced to match a variety of cabling and connection styles, including IDC 110 punchdown, 110 coupler and PC mounting. “For instance, users can change from one category or termination style by simply changing the keystone and plugging the required component in on the other end,” says Sharon Ann Thomas, Alden’s product manager. “These connectors can help users meet whatever solution their networking gurus come up with next because they can use components they already have in place.

“Essentially, our product’s modular design allows end-users to upgrade from one TIA/EIA category to another by simply changing the components, including the jack, plug and cable. The interconnect panel mount coupler and plug assembly kit components remain constant; thereby eliminating the need to change the device entirely. This also applies to the termination on the receptacle side. The user can select the receptacle kit and use whatever termination style they decide.”
