Asian expansion: Tyco strengthens flow control presence in China
Shanghai, China —As part of its global strategy of providing dedicated local service and maintenance to its customers, Tyco Flow Control , a division of Tyco International Ltd. , together with Tyco Thermal Controls , opened its first service center in China at the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park (SCIP) in Jin Shan, China. Tyco is among the world’s largest providers of flow control and heat-tracing products.
“I am pleased today to announce the opening of the Tyco Service Center,” said Jan van Ooijen, president of Tyco Flow Control Asia. “This is an important milestone in Tyco Flow Control’s global strategy to provide permanent local service to our customers in close proximity to their plant locations. We are committed to further our strong customer relationships, deliver prompt service and quality, and most importantly offer expertise that is second to none in providing solutions to our customers. We are proud to now have this service presence in China,” he said.

The Tyco SCIP Service Center covers 2,500 sq m. The service facility covers 1,400 sq m. The center will offer services ranging from maintenance and spare parts replacements to testing and emergency breakdown on call. Tyco Flow Control (valve and control products) and Tyco Thermal Controls (heat-tracing products) will operate out of the service center.
“This is another part of our plan at Tyco Flow Control to establish a stronger presence in China,” continued van Ooijen. “We just completed our first China Campus recruitment round at 10 universities across China. With the vast China talent pool, the company is committed to giving back through employment of these bright, young people.”
Tyco’s recruitment process has 35 top China and Asia managers touring universities, giving students an overview of the company and an opportunity to join. The turnout to the introductory sessions has drawn 2,600 students. Tyco is now at the final round of the process and will shortlist 50 finalists to join the Tyco Flow Control Asia/China team later this year.
Tyco Flow Control manufactures flow control products that move, control, and sample liquids, gases, powders, and other substances. It employs 12,500 in 80 countries. Tyco Thermal Controls offers heat-tracing services, such as engineering, procurement, fabrication, site services, and maintenance. Tyco International Ltd. provides products and services in four business segments: fire and security, electronics, healthcare, and engineered products and services. It posted revenue of $41 billion in 2006 and employs 250,000 worldwide.
