Control Engineering Web site offers information on integrating automation and machine safety. A June 8 Webcast called “Simplified Safety,” sponsored by Control Engineering and Siemens, is among information available on the topic.

A system integrator, original equipment manufacturer, and automation vendor noted various opportunities when integrating automation and safety. Observations include: Safety can add productivity, especially when added early in any process; there’s a need to do regular risk assessments, especially after any automation system changes or additions; diversity of today’s technologies and flexibility within today’s regulations can help; someone, and everyone, needs to consider safety; don’t put off getting required help and technologies.
