Automation: Top 10 specialties among system integrators

Among more than 1,000 automation system integrators providing information about themselves for the 2007 Control Engineering Automation Integrator Guide, more than 63% say they consider programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and remote terminal units (RTUs) among their engineering specialties. Here are the top 10 areas of expertise:

63% PLCs and RTUs;55% human machine interface;52% instrumentation and data acquisition;51% automation;50% process control;46% systems engineer ing;45% motors and motion control;44% control panels;42% installation start-ups; and41% networking and communication.

More than 40 engineering specialties rated 20% or higher among automation system integrators. The 2007 guide was published in December 2006.

Control Engineering Automation Integrator Guide online provides a multiparameter search, allowing the user to specify up to 7 criteria, including engineering specialties. Name (or partial name) search also is provided.
