Chelmsford, MA; Richmond, CA— Brooks Automation Inc. and privately held Berkeley Process Control Inc. announced May 15 that they’ve terminated their Sept. 18, 2002, agreement that Brooks would acquire Berkeley.

The now-defunct acquisition was originally planned for completion by the end of 2002. However, due to business environment changes, both companies report that they mutually agreed to end the transaction. They add that there are no termination penalties applicable to either party, though a loan agreement between Brooks and Berkeley has been renegotiated.

Berkeley produces integrated motion and machine control technologies for telecommunications/optical fiber, semiconductor equipment, and industrial automation. Brooks delivers hardware, software and services for semiconductor manufacturers.
