Brushless miniature ‘pancake’ motors

By Control Engineering Staff February 1, 2000

Burlingame, Calif. -A series of small electronically commutated (EC), brushless motors with ‘pancake’ configuration is available from Maxon Precision Motors Inc. Extremely long motor life results from electronic commutation that eliminates brushes and attendant component wear. Precision ball bearings likewise extend the motor’s life. EC also minimizes electrical noise. These flat pancake-style motors have an external rotor and offer cost-effective packaging for various end-user and OEM applications.

EC Series presently consists of three motor sizes and output ratings: 3, 6, and 12 W of continuous output power. Physical characteristics are the following.
