Kontron Triton D1, a Class 1, Division 1 display received ATEX Ex approval in late April, and the company expects to see strong growth in this extreme type of display, says Fausto Castillo, product marketing manager for the Mobile Rugged Div. of Kontron. Also, soon to be available, is Triton D2 Workstation for Class 2, Division 2 use. Configurations include wall or yoke mounting, depending on customer needs. Class 1, Div 1 Ex designation requires that the enclosure be critically designed to retain any spark or explosion inside. Field termination can be made with ‘hot connectors.’ Official launch for the products was the OTC show in Houston, May 2-5, 2005.

Castillo, who spoke to Control Engineering in late April, says he is excited about having more engineering resources and continued cooperation among the personnel in the embedded, mobile rugged (Dolch Computer Systems, acquired Feb. 25), and other divisions of Kontron.
