Contemporary Controls introduces CAN PC card adapter
Downers Grove, IL— Contemporary Controls recently launched a new CAN PC card adapter to help OEMs immediately connect CAN networks to notebook computers. The ICPCM Intelligent CAN PC card adapter features a 128-kB onboard CAN buffer for use on high-speed CAN networks and provides 2 kB of dual port RAM for high-speed data exchange between the card and an attached PC.
By integrating intelligence in the PC card adapter, the company reports that CAN-based traffic can be captured in real time to minimize the possibility of missing messages. This is important when using the CAN PC card adapter as a monitoring or commissioning tool.
ICPCM is outfitted with an SJA1000 CAN controller chip, offering the full range of data rates up to 1 Mbps and CAN 2.0B compatibility. Its other features include listen-only mode and support for 11-bit and 29-bit identifiers.
ICPCM is also designed with a physical layer interface for DeviceNet. This interface gives it reverse-wiring protection, and optically isolates the CAN signal from the PC. A physical layer option for CANopen will be available in the near future.
