Dassault Systèmes acquires fatigue simulation software company
Dassault Systèmes (Euronext Paris: #13065, DSY.PA) (Paris:DSY), provider of 3D design software and 3D digital mock up and product lifecycle management (PLM) software, on Sept. 4 announced the acquisition of Safe Technology Ltd., provider of fatigue simulation software for predicting product durability. The acquisition of Safe Technology, based in Sheffield, U.K., expands Dassault Systèmes’ 3DExperience platform and its realistic simulation applications (Simulia), enhancing its durability prediction software capabilities. Dassault Systèmes entered into a definitive acquisition agreement with Safe Technology whereby Dassault Systèmes acquired the company in an all-cash transaction. This transaction was completed on August 7, 2013.
Safe Technology, developer of the fe-safe durability simulation application suite, has more than 500 customers, including General Motors, Caterpillar Inc., Cummins Inc., Emerson Climate Technologies, Honda Jets, Harley Davidson Motor Company, and Hyundai Motors. The amount of the transaction was not disclosed.
“Consumers want a product that is built right. They want a product that lasts. Durability deeply affects the emotional attachment between brands and their users. The 3DExperience platform is all about building brand loyalty for a company’s business and the products it offers. This is why Safe Technology is such a good fit for Dassault Systèmes,” said Bernard Charlès, president and CEO, Dassault Systèmes.
“Advanced fatigue and durability software solutions are an essential part of the product design process. Safe Technology will enhance Dassault Systèmes’ Simulia structural simulation to predict and analyze product life quickly and accurately,” said Charles.
John Draper, Founder and CEO, Safe Technology, explained: “Safe Technology has been working closely with Dassault Systèmes and its Simulia applications for more than 15 years…. We enjoy significant synergy with Dassault Systèmes business strategy…. Dassault Systèmes is committed to keeping fe-safe at the forefront of fatigue technology as well as to delivering an open solution that supports all the leading FEA solvers. Acceleration of product development, integration of fatigue solutions into designer-orientated software tools and a high quality, global support network are critical to our growth plans, and being part of Dassault Systèmes and its Simulia team will enhance our ability to do all three.”
Dassault Systèmes, based in Vélizy-Villacoublay, France, also offers Catia, Solidworks, Delmia, Enovia, Geovia, Exalead, Netvibes, 3DSwym, and 3D Via software and claims more than 170,000 customers.
