Digital machine vision adds accuracy, repeatability

Minneapolis, Minn. Able to acquire more than 70 full-resolution, 6403480-pixel images per second, DSL6000 is one of the first digital cameras designed for machine vision applications, according to developer and manufacturer PPT Vision. DSL6000 includes a 10-bit A/D converter for internal image capture and digitization. Handling these functions in the camera eliminates the usual noise and pixel jitter caused by electronic interference. A progressive scan camera, DSL6000 can capture images asynchronously in strobed or shuttered modes.

DSL6000’s 10 bits of image information yields a complete scale of 256 gray levels compared to 128 gray levels from 8-bit devices. This produces increased accuracy in edge finding, pattern matching, and other inspection algorithms. DSL6000 preserves accuracy by digitally transferring repeatable images to the processor via PPT’s DSL Digital Vision Network.
