Pittsburgh, PA – Emerson Process Management’s Westinghouse division recently added Economic Dispatch Optimizer (EDO) to the SmartProcess suite of modules targeted at providing advanced control solutions to steam generation applications. Using a combination of linear models, neural networks, and fuzzy logic, EDO maps and then continually updates the prime efficiency curve for each operating unit within a facility. Using mapped data the module evaluates overall load demand against target operating costs, allowing for variable constraints, and then distributes demand based on established unit performance. EDO also uses past unit operating data to develop an equipment utilization plan. Other modules in the SmartProcess suite are Combustion Optimization, Steam Temperature Optimization, Soot-blower Optimization, and Global Performance Advisor. A SmartProcess “test drive” is available online.
