Donald Monell of NASA to give a “back to the moon” keynote at ISA Expo 2007, Oct. 4

The keynote speaker at ISA Expo 2007 in Houston, TX, on Oct. 4 will be Donald W. Monell, manager for NASA’s Constellation Project Modeling, Simulation, and Data Architecture. The presentation, “Project Constellation – NASA’s New Spaceship: Going Back to the Moon,” is useful because NASA technologies have contributed significantly to process control, machine control, instrumentation, sensors and other areas that continue to advance control engineering.

’s Constellation Project Modeling, Simulation, and Data Architecture . Monell will give Thursday’s keynote address, “Project Constellation– NASA’s New Spaceship: Going Back to the Moon,” at 9 a.m. The perspective is useful because NASA technologies have contributed significantly to process control, machine control, instrumentation, sensors and other areas that continue to advance control engineering.

Monell has more than 24 years of experience, including aircraft and spacecraft systems design and analysis activities, and is responsible for defining strategies, policies, and guidelines for the use of modeling and simulation applications across the Constellation program. He works to define, develop, and implement data architecture requirements that ensure a cohesive approach to defining managing Constellation data.

Project Constellation spacecraft consist primarily of the Ares I and Ares V launch vehicles, the Orion crew capsule, the Earth Departure Stage, and the Lunar Surface Access Module. These spacecraft will be able to perform a variety of missions with the goal of full operational capability service no later than 2014 and returning U.S. astronauts to the moon by 2020.

Since 1990, Monell has worked on numerous NASA projects including the International Space Station Program ; managing the advanced engineering environment for the 2nd Generation Reusable Launch Vehicle (2GRLV) program; contributing to the Exploration Systems Mission Directorate at NASA Headquarters; and managing the Avionics Integration and Vehicle Test activities in the Vehicle Integration Office of the Crew Launch Vehicle Project. Since 2006, he has served as the manager for the Cx Modeling, Simulation and Data Architecture.
