The XI/ON remote I/O system has a wide range of modules and options that enable customers to create I/O configurations as needed for their applications. Eaton provides industry-leading control and automation solutions engineered to deliver efficiencies for customers across the globe. The XI/ON system includes two series of I/O modules, the XN and the XNE. The XN Series provides modularity with hot-swappable plug-in modules, while the XNE series provides integrated I/O modules and bases in higher density configurations.

The XI/ON system includes a host of digital, analog and technology modules for a high degree of modularity. Base modules for the XN Series connect field wiring for standard XI/ON modules; they are available for 2, 3, and 4-wire connections, as block or slice modules, with either spring-cage or screw terminals. XNE modules are available with push-in, spring-cage terminals only and are compatible with the XN spring-cage base modules. Standard fieldbuses include EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP, DeviceNet, Profibus DP, and CANopen. A programmable CANopen gateway delivers PLC power to the fieldbus terminal. Engineered to handle decentralized automation tasks, the programmable CANopen gateway relieves the load of higher-level PLCs. Eaton delivers a configuration and diagnostics tool, IO assistant. Providing interactive support, IO assistant can be used to plan and implement the XI/ON installation.
