San Francisco, CA— RadiSys Corp. launched its new Endura SH845GV long-life, Intel 845GV ATX board at the recent “ electronicaUSA with Embedded Systems Conference (ESC) 2004” at the Moscone Convention Center. The new board is the latest in the company’s Endura family of long-life CPU platforms. SH845GV supports both Intel Pentium 4 and Intel Celeron processors, and is designed to serve in many applications, such as video surveillance, medical imaging, gaming and industrial control systems, which use more PCI peripheral cards.

SH845GV provides a scalable platform, enabling OEMs to select the processor best suited to meet their price/performance requirements. For example, Intel’s 2.4-GHz and 2.8-GHz Pentium 4 processors can be used for high-performance embedded applications with the 2-GHz Celeron processor used as an entry-level, cost-effective solution. This flexibility, combined with the board’s five-year lifetime, gives OEMs an embedded platform designed for a lower total cost of ownership (TCO).

‘OEMs continue to look for embedded platforms that deliver leading edge technology, can be used in many applications and don’t cost a fortune to own over the life of the product,’ says Fred Yentz, RadiSys’ VP. ‘We provide exceptional engineering support and revision control all of which equate to a lower cost of ownership. RadiSys has a reputation of supplying platforms that not only allow our customers to develop better products faster, but also have a lifetime that far exceeds similar commercial products.’

SH845GV consists of an industry-standard 12 x 9.6 in. ATX form factor board that supports Intel’s Pentium 4 and Celeron processors at bus speeds of 400 MHz or 533 MHz. The board handles applications requiring large amounts of memory with up to 2 GB of DDR SDRAM. In addition to its integrated Intel Extreme Graphics, other integrated features include a 10/100 Ethernet port and AC97 digital audio.

Expansion is provided by six 32-bit/33MHz PCI slots and a Compact Flash socket for on-board storage. Integrated I/O includes six USB 2.0 ports, two serial ports, one parallel port and PS/2 ports for keyboard and mouse. RadiSys adds that SH845GV was designed to meet the needs of OEMs who are looking for long-life solutions that can be used in a variety of embedded applications.

RadiSys adds that it carefully chose the ideal components and architecture, ensuring OEMs a flexible, cost-effective platform that can be leveraged in more than one implementation. Expanding the number of PCI slots enables OEMs to pack more video I/O cards in a video surveillance application, and to attach all the interface cards required for coin-op gaming machines. The board’s AGP digital display slot enables use of an ADD card to interface to digital display panels typically used in medical and gaming applications. This unique pairing of components and architecture also minimizes the component ‘churn’ that has become common in the standard desktop ATX boards.
