Octopus ESD monitoring system from Credence Technologies monitors electrostatic discharge (ESD) exposure to individual ICs during each step of their handling operations. The fully integrated, real-time monitoring system is now part of the latest Epson NS7000 IC handlers manufactured by Seiko/Epson (distributed by Kanematsu Corp.). Octopus ESD collects statistical data on the IC handler’s ESD environment, providing an alarm if number of discharges exceeds a preset level. ICs exposed to elevated ESD levels are automatically separated to prevent their shipment to customers. Continuous ESD monitoring improves process reliability of IC fabrication.
