Minneapolils, MN — Beckhoff Automation announced new models in its Ethernet TCP/IP controller family, adding BC9120, BC9020 and BC9050 variants. These new controllers range in features and price, says the company, offering a scalable solution to help balance performance with cost. The BC controllers include a direct connection to the company’s line of I/O terminals, and can be operated stand-alone, or as decentralized intelligence on an Ethernet network. All the company’s Ethernet controllers have implemented the Modbus TCP, ADS/TCP, ADS/UDP, BootP, DHCP, SNTP and SMTP protocols. The new “Compact” BC9050 Bus Terminal Controller extends the company’s Bus Terminal system with what it terms a cost-optimized variant in a space-saving housing. As a step up in performance, the new BC9020 and BC9120 models offer more program and data memory than the BC9050. The BC9120 has two Ethernet ports that act as a 2-channel switch. The I/O stations can be configured with a line topology instead of the traditional star topology.Beckhoff has built a reputation on PC-based control, but the company also has a scalable PLC product portfolio. Since the introduction of Ethernet as a communications standard for automation technology, the company points out, it has continuously enhanced its product range to be optimized for Industrial Ethernet. In addition to Ethernet TCP/IP, the company also offers PLCs for several major fieldbus networks including EtherCAT, DeviceNet, Profibus, SERCOS, CANopen, Lightbus and Interbus.— edited by C.G.
