“dualis DMC” (data matrix code) reader is designed to reliably read and decode ECC200 data matrix codes, then transmit decoded information from the reader via IEC-232 communication. Two-dimensional DMCs such as this have become a primary means of collecting and storing information for parts tracking, traceability, and product verification in many industries. DMCs using error correction ECC200 can be decoded even if a portion of a code is damaged. Automated processes typically use fixed-mount readers that interface with industrial control systems using standard electrical connectors.

Optics and electronics in dualis are self-contained in a rugged, die cast housing that uses standard M12 and M8 electrical connectors. Device measures 42 x 42 x 43.5 mm to fit in applications with limited space. It features integrated lighting that illuminates the DMC, eliminating the need for external light in most cases. Using the focus setting, reading distance can be adjusted from 30 to 200 mm.

Reader also provides code quality verification, according to measures established by AIM (Association for Automatic Identification and Mobility) based on ISO/IEC standard 16022. Each quality measurement, including symbol contrast, print growth, and unused error correction, is graded on an A to F scale. The lowest grade determines overall DMC quality. The dualis reader can transmit this grade along with decoded information.

For difficult-to-read and poorly marked codes, the reader uses built-in image enhancements to maintain consistent code readability. It minimizes stray marks in the background and improves contrast between light and dark modules.
