Exclusive: Ultra-compact PLC covers entire nano range

North Andover, MA – Twido (pronounced twee-doe) from Schneider Electric has integrated the two most common formats for nano programmable logic controllers (PLC) into a single platform.
Available in both modular (book) and compact (brick) formats, Twido controllers share a single range of I/O expansions, option modules, and Microsoft-based programming soft-ware for design flexibility. This family of controllers makes it simple for OEMs and control panel builders to put more capabilities into a smaller footprint.
Modular Twido packs 40 I/O points into a body smaller than a business card (1.89 x 3.54 x 2.78-in.), yet is customizable with a range of expansion modules that allow 256 total analog and discrete I/O points. The all-in-one compact model, with 10 to 24 I/O points, comes with its own 120 Vac power supply and can also be expanded to up to 88 I/O points.
Twido controllers integrate such advanced functions as fast up/down counters, time de-lays, permanent data backup, and RS-485 Modbus master/slave communication port. Op-tional plug-in accessories include an operator display, memory cartridges, real-time clock, or communication adapters. The controller’s snap-together modules and accessories require no tools for assembly. A range of wiring options- spring-type terminals, removable screw terminal blocks, and pre-wired cabling – also simplify control panel assembly and increase reliability. The optional operator display is similar to a hand-held programmer and allows users to view and modify bits and words, timer/counter presets, and serial communications configuration. It can be easily plugged and unplugged so that an operator needs just one to view and configure several devices. An EEPROM module enables memory back up or loading a revised program.
Twidosoft programming package is purchased separately and comes with a program-ming cable. It allows programming in both Instruction List and Ladder Diagram. These programs are reversible, that is, a program written in Ladder Diagram can be viewed as In-struction List and vice versa.
Applications for these ultra-compact controllers include palletizers and other material handling applications, compressors, cutting machines, elevators, fan/pump control, access control and automatic doors, car washes, industrial laundry, light control, and other small machines.
