Motors, drives, and motion control professionals need to periodically update their skills. Here’s a sampling of opportunities in the next few months from a new show named SPS Electric Automation America; from Bosch Rexroth Corp. ’s training classes, and from Oriental Motor Corp. ’s annual Fair & Seminar. Debut of a special-interest exhibition and a conference, SPS Electric Automation America , is set for May 24-26, 2005 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont (Chicago), IL. The exhibition will cover electric automation and motion control technology from systems to components, while the conference, which runs May 23-26, will offer comprehensive treatment of automation, machine control, and motion control technologies. User-oriented sessions are intended for engineers in science and industry seeking solutions to their projects.

Bosch Rexroth Corp . offers numerous electric drives and controls training courses ranging from digital servo drives and systems to transfer-line control to general automation and maintenance/troubleshooting of various hardware systems. A partial list of classes to be given at the company’s facilities in Illinois and Michigan includes:

  • HDD/HDS Digital Servo Drive with HVE/HVR Power Supply (Apr. 19-21, 2005)

  • DKC Single Axis Digital Servo Drive (Apr. 12-13, Jun. 7-8)

  • Visual Motion 9 System Basics (Apr. 12-14; May 24-26)

  • Trans01-D Transfer Line Control (May 10-12)

  • MTC200 Maintenance and Troubleshooting Version 23 (Apr. 25-29)

  • Win PLC for MTC200 Version 23 (May 24-26).

The 14th annual Oriental Motor Fair & Seminar consists of free technical and application sessions, workshops, product exhibits, demos, and “one-on-one” with company engineers. Seminar focus is on topics such as position control fundamentals, electric actuators, velocity control, thermal management, and motor selection/sizing. Dates and locations in 2005 are:

  • Independence, OH (Cleveland)– April 21

  • Tampa, FL– May 12

  • Santa Clara, CA– May 19
