Better support for European customers is the goal of new engineering and sales offices for Lumex Inc ., a div. of Illinois Tool Works, opening in Neu Anspach, near Frankfurt am Main, Germany. The facility will be directed at those seeking to engineer Lumex opto-components and LED and LCD systems into their products. The local presence, says Lumex, will provide more timely service tuned for specific needs.

Heading up the German office is Guenter Ruetzel, Lumex director of European sales. He said of the new endeavor, “We believe our new facility and staff will allow us to provide quick support as well as a high degree of flexibility in supporting our customers and developing new designs for the needs of specific customers here.” An electrical engineer, Ruetzel brings 10 years of experience in the LCD and LED industries to the position, at least half spend designing LCD devices into automotive and appliance products.

Lumex designs manufactures, and distributes opto- and photo-electronic components, devices, and display used in HMIs and for motion detection, short-range signaling, and fiber communications. With the expansion, the firm offers products emphasizing application- and customer-specific parts in North America, Asia, and Europe.
