Foundry Networks joins the Ethernet Alliance
San Jose, CA — Foundry Networks Inc. announced its status as a founding member of the Ethernet Alliance , and that Val Oliva, director of product management with Foundry’s Enterprise Business Unit, has joined the Ethernet Alliance’s board of directors. Ethernet Alliance members are dedicated to the continued success and expansion of Ethernet technology across many industries.
“We’re pleased to have Foundry Networks as a founding member of the Ethernet Alliance,” said Brad Booth, president, Ethernet Alliance. “Foundry was a very active member in the 10 Gigabit Ethernet Alliance, successfully promoting this important technology from its inception over five years ago. We look forward to their participation in the new Ethernet Alliance as we promote the acceptance and application of current and emerging Ethernet standards in a broad range of environments.”
Besides Foundry Networks, founding members of the Ethernet Alliance include 3Com, ADC, Agere Systems, AMCC, Aquantia, Broadcom, Force10 Networks, Intel, Lawrence Berkeley Labs, Pioneer Corp., Quake Technologies, Samsung, Sun Microsystems, Tehuti Networks, Tyco Electronics, University of New Hampshire InterOperability Laboratory, and Xilinx.The company commented that, unlike past alliances supporting single, IEEE 802 Ethernet projects, the Ethernet Alliance will exist for as long as it remains relevant to IEEE 802 Ethernet technology and will bring the following benefits to IEEE 802 Ethernet projects:
Accelerate acceptance and reduce time-to-market of new Ethernet technologies;
Focusing efforts to identify and specify new areas of Ethernet standardization;
Continued market education on the application and benefits of Ethernet solutions; and
Removing the barrier of start-up and organizational issues that surround individually dedicated efforts, saving both time and money.
