Freescale Semiconductor reports that manufacturers can now use ZigBee technology in sensing and monitoring applications with what it says is the world’s first single-source, ZigBee-compliant platform. TUV Rheinland of North America, an independent testing and assessment service designated by the ZigBee Alliance, confirms that Freescale’s platform conforms to the IEEE 802.15.4 standard and the ZigBee specification.
Freescale adds its comprehensive, scalable solution reduces the time and cost of developing products using multiple suppliers. The firm adds its ZigBee technology enables wireless products for monitoring, sensing, automation, and control applications in the home, light commercial, and industrial environments. ZigBee is useful for wireless applications requiring long battery life, cost-effective connectivity, and easy deployment.
“We expect the emerging global Zigbee standard to be a major enabler for networked monitoring and control applications, such as industrial controllers, sensor nets, and home controllers,” says Bob Heile, ZigBee Alliance’s chairman. “Freescale has taken a leadership role in the alliance and in this certification process, which will continue to grow industry support for the adoption of wireless connectivity.”
Users can take advantage of Freescale’s ZigBee-compliant platform with its MC13193 Evaluation Kit (13193EVK-A00). The kit includes development tools added to Freescale’s ZigBee platform, which supports ZigBee networking capabilities and range of more than 350 meters, according to L.S. Research. The kit also contains hardware and software to demonstrate and develop ZigBee-compliant solutions.
