Hoffman Enclosures plans to buy thermal management assets

Pentair Inc. says it intends to purchase certain assets of APW Ltd., including McLean Midwest, Electronic Solutions, and Aspen Motion Technologies Inc. The announcement is expected to strengthen Pentair’s Enclosures Group, Hoffman Enclosures , by adding critical thermal management solutions for manufacturing, packaging, material handling, processing, data communications, networking, and electrical industries. Pentair expects the acquisition to be completed in fourth-quarter 2005.

Hoffman and McLean previously have been affiliated through a private-labeling supply agreement. McLean designs and manufactures air conditioning, cooling, and other thermal management products for electrical and electronic equipment. Integration of these technologies and systems into Hoffman’s enclosure product offerings is expected to expand Hoffman’s product offering in markets where thermal management has become a critical issue.

“With this acquisition, Pentair enhances Hoffman’s position among global providers of quality enclosures and related technical products to protect our customers’ electrical and data networking infrastructures from failure due to excessive heat or other thermal management problems,” said Del Nickel, Hoffman’s president. “We expect this acquisition to accelerate Hoffman’s ability to develop new and innovative equipment protection solutions, creating greater value for our customers in the enclosures segment.”

With 2004 revenues from continuing operations of $2.28 billion, Pentair has approximately 13,000 employees worldwide, the company says.
