Honeywell extends wireless platform with discrete input transmitters

XYR 6000 discrete-input transmitters send data from contact-closure and thermocouple devices.

Honeywell Process Solutions has added two discrete-input transmitters to its family of XYR 6000 wireless devices. The STXW 500 and the STTW 401 transmitters can convert any measurement device with a contact-closure switch input into a wireless input, enabling manufacturers to extend the capabilities of wireless infrastructure . The company says the transmitters are ideal for applications, such as monitoring level switches, pump status, and system alarms through the wireless system.

The new devices can transmit signals from up to three contact switches. The STXW 500 transmitter accepts three discrete/digital inputs while the STTW 401 transmitter accepts a thermocouple input and two discrete/digital inputs. Both transmitters carry intrinsically safe approvals for use in hazardous areas from FM Global and CSA.

“One of the most significant benefits of industrial wireless technology is its ability to simplify operations without major expense,” says Raymond Rogowski, manager of global product marketing for field instrumentation, Honeywell Process Solutions. “These new XYR 6000 transmitters fall right in line with that philosophy by enabling plants to convert existing measurement devices to wireless solutions without needing to replace the equipment.”

The STXW 500 and STTW 401 transmitters complement the other wireless transmitters in Honeywell’s XYR 6000 product line, which includes pressure transmitters, temperature transmitters, analog transmitters, and corrosion monitoring transmitters.

The XYR 6000 Series wireless transmitters all work under Honeywell’s OneWireless system , the company’s industrial wireless mesh network designed to meet ISA100.11a hardware requirements.
