IMTS 2002: MDSI showing new products, partnerships
Chicago, IL— Manufacturing Data Systems Inc. (MDSI, Ann Arbor, MI) and its OEM partners are exhibiting machine tools and controls with MDSI’s OpenCNC software this week at IMTS 2002 , Sept. 4-11, at McCormick Place. MDSI is located in Booth D-4232 at the show.
To help users increase productivity, reduce operating and capital expenditures, and increase product and process quality, MDSI is introducing three new machine tools or retrofit controls standardized with MDSI’s OpenCNC control software. These consist of an EDM five-axis drilling machine; a BostoMatic five-axis mill; and a four-axis horizontal machining center. All three machines will be cutting parts and demonstrating OpenCNC’s control capabilities.
MDSI’s booth is also networked to display its open architecture software control, automation and factory information products: MDSI OpenCNC 6.2; MDSI WinMotion 2.0 software; and MDSI Factory Information System, which run on a range of standard platforms and machine tools. WinMotion is designed for general motion control or specialty machine control needs. Factory Information System is based on MDSI’s Significant Events, its patented real-time data collection and distribution technology.
MDSI is also introducing plant-floor information products for discrete manufacturers, and reports that it is linking machine tools to the supply chain with unprecedented levels of machine tool data. The company is further demonstrating several new products and technologies to support the data and information requirements of Six Sigma and supply chain strategies.
To give manufacturers more choice in CNC machine tool control products, MDSI is introducing its Standard CNC workstation package, which is based on a NEMA 4/4X/12 industrial PC; 15-in color flat panel touchscreen monitor; Yaskawa or Rexroth Indramat servo and spindle systems; and a range of I/O systems.
Finally, the booth will also show how MDSI is helping OEMs enter new markets with better solutions for customers. Machine tool and control builders demonstrating machines with OpenCNC at IMTS include:
Fryer Machine Systems, Inc. (Patterson, NY) will demonstrate SX-30, the first model in what will be a series of four SX Series machines, a new line of five-axis machining centers;
[Fryer is located at Booth A-8043. The rest of the OEMs using OpenCNC will be at MDSI’s Booth D-4232.]
Raycon Corp. (Ann Arbor, MI) will demonstrate a new five-axis machine tool and retrofit package for micro-hole drilling and electrical discharge machinery system for the automotive industry; and
Telco Automation Ltd. (TAL, Pune, India) and IIG (Orion, MI) will demonstrate the TAL H50-3 high-speed, four-axis horizontal machining center.
