Veeco Instruments Inc. (Woodbury, N.Y.) and FEI Co. (Hillsboro, Ore.) announced July 12 that they’ve agreed to merge their two companies. FEI will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Veeco, and Veeco will be renamed Veeco FEI Inc.

(Mansfield, Mass.) announced July 9 that Rijkswaterstaat (RWS) has selected Axeda Supervisor, a component of Axeda’s Device Relationship Management (DRM) system, to remotely manage and control critical bridge systems and continuously monitor salt water introduced into the Netherland’s rivers.

Real-Time Innovations (RTI, Sunnyvale, Calif.) unveiled its new software platform for unmanned systems, Constellation, on July 9 at the AUVSI Symposium and Conference (Orlando, Fla.). RTI says its software provides a framework, components, and tools that simplify unmanned system programming, from initial design through field configuration.

Cognex Corp. (Natick, Mass.) has filed a complaint against Matrox Electronic Systems Limited (Dorval, Quebec, Canada). Cognex is claiming that the Matrox Geometric Model Finder software, and possibly other components, shipped as part of the company’s Matrox Imaging Library, infringes claims of at least one Cognex patent. Cognex is also seeking unspecified damages to compensate for the Matrox patent infringement.
