Industrial Ethernet switch will serve Gigabit
Moxa Technologies Inc. expects to launch a new gigabit Ethernet switch for industrial Ethernet applications. EDS-518A is a new generation Ethernet switch that meets the European Union’s RoHS standards. The switch, scheduled for release later in 2006, is a standalone 18-port managed Ethernet switch with 2 combo gigabit ports, built-in RJ45 or SFP ports for gigabit optic communication, and gigabit Ethernet Redundant Turbo Ring (recovery time & 300 ms) to increase the reliability and speed of a network backbone. It supports intelligent network management functions, including QoS, IGMP Snooping/GMRP, VLAN, Port Trunking, SNMP V1/V2c/V3, IEEE 802.1X, and https/SSL.

Quality of service (QoS) provides a traffic prioritization capability to ensure that important data is delivered consistently and predictably, and EDS-518A supports IEEE802.1D-1998 DMRP and IGMP snooping to reduce the amount of traffic on the Ethernet LAN. It also supports VLAN technology, which can be used to segment a network without being restricted by physical connections, and IEEE802.3ad (LACP) is said to provide flexible network connections and a redundant path for critical devices. SNMP V1/V2c/V3 provide different levels of management, and RMON (remote network monitoring) allows various network agents and console systems to exchange network monitoring data. In addition, IEEE802.1X and https/SSL are available to enhance network security.
