Taipei, Taiwan – Platinum mines are using extended temperature CME-822E, industrial-grade, 10-port managed Power over Ethernet (PoE) switch with SFP flexibility, according to Ethernet Direct . PoE extends the functionality of Ethernet by supplying reliable dc power over the same cables that currently carry Ethernet data. To address this upcoming requirement in Industrial applications, Ethernet Direct has introduced an industrial managed PoE switch with 8 10/100TX + 2 10/100/1000T/ Mini-GBIC Combo with 8 PoE injector.

Mining, manufacturing, process control, and industrial automation are among application areas for industrial Ethernet and Power over Ethernet, suggests Ethernet Direct.

In this project, the platinum mine site, wireless access devices, IP PoE cameras, and a number of specialty devices are installed to provide industrial information and control systems applications. The power needed to operate small devices is generated in the Ethernet switches, reducing installation effort, eliminating separate power cabling in hard-to-reach areas in the site. IP PoE cameras are installed for security reasons. Extreme temperatures and harsh environment in mining sites require a robust device to guarantee long-life operation. The feasibility of combining signal and power in one Ethernet cable connection in Ethernet-based industrial control systems is the consideration in deploying Power over Ethernet network in the mining site to address the requirement. Industrial Ethernet and Power over Ethernet can be used in many rugged applications , says Ethernet Direct Corp.Read about Power over Ethernet products and news .–  Control Engineering Register here .
