Two large instrumentation and technology companies started the new year announcing acquisitions of smaller specialist technologies:

  • Emerson has acquired Damcos Holding A/S, makers of valve control and tank management equipment for offshore and marine applications.

  • PerkinElmer acquired a line of dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) products from UK-based Triton Technology Ltd.

Emerson Process Management will take Damcos as one of its brands, expanding its capabilities for offshore and maritime markets. “We are excited about the addition of Damcos’ marine tank management products and systems expertise,” said John Berra, division president.

Damcos has production facilities in Naestved; Ry, Denmark; Busan, South Korea; and Shanghai, China. The acquisition includes all Damcos’ technologies, manufacturing facilities, and employees. Terms of the purchase were not disclosed.

PerkinElmer purchased a product line and supporting technology (rather than a company). DMA instrumentation is used by scientists in the polymer, pharmaceutical, and food industries for applications ranging from quality control to advanced research. “This acquisition brings our customers a best-in-class thermal analysis tool that combines ease-of-use and flexibility with powerful performance,” said Robert F. Friel, president of PerkinElmer Life and Analytical Sciences.
